Project

Alberta Transportation Hwy 28A & Hwy 643 Intersection Improvement

As industry grows, traffic increases, leading to the need for new solutions for roadways and intersections. This was the case with the intersection of Hwy 28A and Hwy 643 near the town of Gibbons in central Alberta, where the continued growth of the North West Refinery area and it’s supporting operations were growing rapidly. Increased traffic meant stronger traffic controls were needed to keep the intersection safe and ensure traffic could flow smoothly.

Alberta Transportation contracted CVL Engineering Inc. for the design, construction management, and post-construction review for new signal lights at the intersection. The scope of services included the design of a four-way traffic signal and advance warning lights.
CVL proactively worked with Alberta Transportation to develop a cost-effective design that met the project requirements, without necessitating an extensive geometric redesign. We were able to provide full support throughout the project, verifying the safety and effectiveness of the outcome in our post-construction review.
